Frequently asked questions

What is moissanite? Is it a real gemstone?

Moissanite is a real, lab-created gemstone made of silicon carbide. It is not cubic zirconia or glass. It’s prized for its exceptional brilliance, durability, and consistency — which is why it’s widely used in fine and bespoke jewelry.

At Loose Lab Stones, we focus exclusively on high-grade moissanite, selected for optical performance rather than mass production.

How does moissanite compare to diamond?

Moissanite closely resembles diamond in appearance, with a key difference: moissanite has more fire (rainbow sparkle), while diamonds reflect more white light. Preference comes down to taste.

We offer cuts and color grades chosen to look clean, refined, and balanced, avoiding the overly flashy appearance often associated with lower-quality stones.

Are your moissanite stones suitable for everyday wear?

Yes. Moissanite ranks 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it highly scratch-resistant and ideal for daily wear, engagement rings, and heirloom jewelry.

All stones we sell are inspected individually for cut precision, polish, and durability before being offered for sale.

Will moissanite lose its sparkle or become cloudy over time?

No. Moissanite does not cloud, discolor, or lose brilliance. With proper care, it retains its appearance for a lifetime.

If you’ve seen cloudy stones elsewhere, that is almost always a quality or cutting issue, not a property of moissanite itself.

Why don’t you have GRA certification?

This is intentional — and important.

While our stones technically qualify for GRA paperwork, GRA certificates are not independent gemological reports and are often mass-generated, sometimes even before a stone exists. In the industry, they are widely used as a marketing tool rather than a mark of quality.

At Loose Lab Stones, we believe real quality doesn’t need exaggerated labels. Instead of relying on questionable certificates, we:

  • personally inspect every stone
  • verify cut accuracy, polish, symmetry, and optical performance
  • sell based on the stone itself — not paperwork

Sellers who loudly promote GRA certificates as a “guarantee” are often compensating for inconsistent quality.

Do you test and quality-check your stones? Do you offer a lifetime warranty?

Yes — every single one.

We do not dropship unchecked stones. Each moissanite is handled, inspected, and approved by us before it is sold. Stones that don’t meet our standards are rejected, even if they technically meet grading specs.

This hands-on approach is the foundation of our brand. All Loose Lab Stones moissanite stones are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects in the stone itself.

Where are your stones sourced from?

Our moissanite is sourced from Wuzhou, the global center of expertise for lab-grown gemstones.

Wuzhou is known for its highly skilled lapidaries and advanced cutting technology, and the vast majority of premium moissanite — including stones sold by established and luxury brands — is cut there.

We are transparent about this because there is nothing to hide. Quality comes from skill, not geography.

What makes Loose Lab Stones different?

Transparency, selectivity, and respect for informed buyers.

We don’t rely on hype, misleading certificates, or vague claims. We sell carefully selected loose stones, backed by knowledge, honest sourcing, and real quality control.

If you value clarity — in both gemstones and business practices — you’re in the right place.
